Youth Ecological Network of Naurzum District Established

The First Youth Environmental Forum of Naurzum District

On January 22, 2008 "Naurzum BioNet" Youth Public Organization, through the support of the SCWP, organized the First Youth Environmental Forum of Naurzum district in Karamendy village of Naurzum district, entitled "Youth, Environment and Sustainable Development. Understanding and Participation."

More than 60 people took part in the Forum: including representatives from ten different non-governmental organizations (NGOs) of the district, rural districts, administration, the Naurzum National Natural Reserve, teachers, school children and active youth.

The people who addressed the delegates of the Forum were: Deputy Akim of Naurzum district on social issues, H. S. Kuatkanova; main specialist on work with youth and youth associations of the Department of Internal Policy of Kostanay Region, T. A. Zhazitov; Deputy Director of Science of the Naurzum National Natural Reserve, M. A. Zeynelova; National Coordinator of Youth Ecological Network of the Republic of Kazakhstan, M. A. Glushkov; and "Naurzum BioNet" Coordinator of Youth Public Association, A. R. Salemgareev.

The main task of Eco-Forum has been realized: the Youth Environmental Network of Naurzum district has been established.

The participants developed a network plan for 2008-2009, discussed possible ways of youth involvement in the solution of ecological problems, possibility of creating bird watching clubs, prepared an activity plan for "Crane Festival Celebration - 2008," learned about the problems of environmental education and biodiversity in Naurzum district, and have discussed the possibility of active youth participation in project and initiative activities.

Finally, the following key directions of raising youth participation in environmental protection and sustainable development have been defined:

  • Environmental education and education for sustainable development;

  • Support of youth ecological initiatives, creation of eco-clubs, teams, eco-informational rooms;

  • Attraction of public attention to biodiversity problem through organization of public relations campaigns/actions, contests, excursions, concerts, making advertisement rollers, etc.

The following results were achieved in the course of the forum:

  • Members of the environmental network were designated;

  • Coordinator and Coordinator’s Assistant of MES of Naurzum district were elected;

  • Coordinator of Ecological-Tourist assembly of Naurzum district was elected;

  • Joint activity plan for 2008-2009 was developed and approved;

  • The resolution of the forum was developed and approved.

The following materials were disseminated at the workshop: informational materials on the SCWP, Draft Provision of MES of Naurzum district, "Crane Day" booklets, Informational bulletin of  ACBK, calendars, booklets and videos.

Uniting of initiative youth and youth organizations on environmental protection are of great significance for sustainable development, so this action has become an important event in Naurzum district.

The Forum has allowed not only to gather young activists from different rural areas of Naurzum district, but also to invite school heads on study-educational sections, teachers of biology, NGOs and representatives of Naurzum district Akimat for development of joint actions in the sphere of nature protection and development of further cooperation.

The participants of the Forum expressed their gratitude to the SCWP, “Naurzum BioNet" MOO, Akimat of Naurzum district, the Naurzum National Natural Reserve, and the Department on Internal Policy for contribution to the Forum.
