Siberian Crane Spring Migration Begins in Iran

The two Siberian Cranes (one wild and one released) that wintered at Fereydoon Kenar Damgah (Mazandaran Province, Iran) in 2007-2008 began their northern spring migration in late February. According to information from local people, they were last observed in the area 23 February 2008.

The wild bird arrived at Fereydoon Kenar on 3 November 2007. The captive-bred Siberian Crane was transferred from Oka Crane Breeding Center, Russia and was released into the Fereydoon Kenar Damgah on 14 November 2007 (click here for a story on the release). Since the end of December 2007 these two birds have remained together.
