A single Siberian Crane returned to Fereydoon Kenar Damgah on 26 October 2008. The crane may be one of two Siberian Cranes (above) that wintered at this site last year.

 

 

 

 

Western Siberian Crane Population Fall Migration Update

On 25 October 2008 a single Siberian Crane arrived on the species' wintering grounds in northern Iran. The crane landed at the Ezbaran Damgah in Mazandaran Province and moved to the Fereydoon Kenar Damgah the following morning.

During the winter of 2007-2008, two Siberian Cranes (one wild and one released) wintered at Fereydoon Kenar. The captive-bred Siberian Crane was transferred from Oka Crane Breeding Center, Russia and was released on 14 November 2007 (click here for a story on the release). The two cranes began their northern spring migration in late February 2008.
