Naurzum Nature Reserve Promoted at Spring Tourism Fairs

The Naurzum National Natural Reserve presented its advertising products - banners, booklets, calendars, and tourist itineraries, prepared within the framework of the UNEP/GEF Siberian Crane Wetland Project at the Fifth Republican Tourist Fair, "Tourism. Health Enhancement. Tours. ARTF – 2008" which was held in Burabay village at the "Ok Zhetpes" Sanitarium.

More than ten regions of Kazakhstan, Russian tourist companies, representatives of Akimats (Governments), the departments of business and industry, the committees on tourism industry, mass media, and businessmen in the field of tourism took part in the fair. Representatives of the Department of Business of the Naurzum Akimat presented on the draft programme, "Prospects of ecological tourism development in Naurzum District."

The organizers of the fair - Akimat of Akmola region and the Department of Business and Industry awarded a prize - a microwave oven - to the representatives of Naurzum district in appreciation of the high quality of their prepared stands.

From 24 to April 26, 2008, the International Tourism Fair on "Tourism. Travels. KITF - 2008" was held in Almaty city. Representatives of tourist businesses from 34 countries, of protected natural areas and tour companies from throughout Kazakhstan took part in the fair.

All regions of Kazakhstan prepared their own advertising proposals and programs on tourism and ecological tourism development. The Kostanay region was represented mainly by stands and advertising products of the Naurzum National Nature Reserve. In the program on "Prospects of ecological tourism development in Naurzum district", presented by a representative of the department on business of Naurzum Akimat, the main role of Naurzum Reserve was emphasized, which possesses unique natural wealth and potential capacity for development of ecological tourism in buffer zones and in the surrounding areas.

The Deputy Director of the reserve on scientific activity, Maria Zeinelova, presented for the guests of the fair and potential users several new ecological itineraries, designed in accordance with the Management Plan of the reserve, for the purpose of attracting tourists and implementation of the program on the development of ecological tourism in Naurzum district. The advertising products of the  Naurzum National Nature Reserve were of great interest to international and national tour companies. National TV will prepare a video film-loop about Naurzum Reserve.

In prospect, the employees of the reserve, jointly with the project experts and Akimat of the district, have planned a number of activities on the development of infrastructure on ecological tourism:  development of tourist packages, training of local tour operators and guides, training workshops for the reserve staff and NGO leaders, and development of a pilot project.
