Celebration of the inclusion of Naurzum Reserve in UNESCO’s World Heritage List On June 19, 2009, a concert of "Academy of Soloists" State Chamber Ensemble and the soloists of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the Naurzum Reserve and the Siberian Crane Wetland Project, was performed at the Kazakh National Musical Academy in Astana city. The concert was organized to celebrate the inclusion of the Naurzum Reserve in the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Saryaka – Steppe and Lakes of Northern Kazakhstan site in July 2008 (read more about the nomination of this new World Heritage Site).
The writer Bahytzhan Nugmanov, author of the book "Ancient Naurzum," gave the welcome address, followed by Bakitzhan Muttakov, director of the Naurzum Reserve, who explained the process of World Heritage site nomination preparation. Tulegen Tashmagambetov, Akim of Naurzum district, also spoke, emphasizing the responsibility of local executive bodies for the conservation of this unique object of cultural and natural heritage.
Masterpieces of world classical music, A. Vivaldi, D. Verdi, B. Marcello and V. Kiyar, were performed at the concert. One of the surprises was the performance of music composed about Naurzum - Waltz - Nostalgia, Star Waltz by conductor and composer A. Muhitdinov. Stands and booklets on the inclusion of the Naurzum State Natural Reserve in the World Heritage list were prepared for the event by the Siberian Crane Wetland Project.
